Gender and diversity

The region is making progress in advancing gender equality, but there is still much to be done in this area. From education to work to income, women in the region face barriers to reach their potential because of their gender. Some lack access to electricity while others cannot find jobs in the sector because they are not considered capable or because of cultural barriers. All of this leads to women being underrepresented in energy sector management processes and economic and political decision-making. Because they are disadvantaged by a lack of opportunities in society, they also experience fewer economic growth benefits and more challenges in terms of poverty and inequality.

This section, includes, for example, the Gender and Infrastructure Toolkit, a guide that provides Access to indicators for infrastructure operations design, a menu of more than 150 gender-sensitive activities, estimated budgets, and more than 80 practical examples in the energy sector. It also includes indicators for other infrastructure sectors like water and sanitation, extractive activities, and transportation.

The methodological details of each analysis and the downloadable database are at your disposal in each indicator.
